Ben, Better Than Ever

Ben Simmons has been overlooked this year so far. He was being overshadowed by Joel “MVP” Embiid, then by the acquiring of Jimmy “Ice” Butler, and even when he put together a nice streak of basketball, he was overshadowed by Kendall Jenner and the most idiotic sports petition ever. So how has Ben been playing? Did he even get better in the off-season?

If you simply just look at the stats you would say he is pretty much the same player. Stats, however do not tell the real story of Ben’s season so far. There are multiple reasons behind this, but I could see it becoming a common theme in his career. For one, Joel Embiid has become an offensive juggernaut. This is a great thing for the Sixers as a whole, but it does not help Simmons much. Embiid is not someone who you can rack up assists to by hitting them on a cut or dishing out for a nice three. Most of the time you get the ball to Embiid he will post up, put his back to the basket, or stand in triple-threat position for multiple seconds effectively taking away the chance for an assist. Like I mentioned, this is great for our team but it is one of the reasons Ben’s assists numbers are not as high as they could be.

Ben can get buckets. This is a known thing in the NBA. Averaging 15+ a game is hard and if you even come close to it you are a good scorer. This really shows why Ben is so dominant. He is not a scorer. He is a pass first point guard who can play good defense and take rebounds away from 7-foot centers. The fact he even averages 15.5 ppg shows exactly why he is so dominant all-around at basketball. He also is averaging about the same number of points on 1 whole less shot per game. This will probably continue to rise throughout the season as he continues to get more comfortable and hopefully can continue his hot scoring streak. Ben at his peak will not be tops in the league at scoring, it just is not his game. I could see his best year in his career averaging about 22 points per game on a great efficiency.

So, let’s talk about the thing that Ben DEFINITELY improved on. Free throws. Yes, his last game was horrible in this department, but on the year Ben is shooting 60.6%. This is a huge jump from the 56% he shot last year. He is also averaging about 1 more free-throw per game. If ben could get this to about 63% by the end of the year I would be confident in his future at the line. People can improve at the line in the off-season and if anything, this shows us how seriously he takes his training.

Okay. I just have to touch upon the whole Kendall Jenner drama that was going on this week. If you signed the petition or supported it in any way, you need to log off the internet, go to the closest bar and get laid. The only reason anyone in the world would go as far as to try and stop a player that they are a fan of from dating one of the most beautiful women on this earth is jealousy or just the overall need to hate on anyone else being successful. Do not hide behind the “Kardashian curse” because we all know that is not a thing. I am not sure if anything this fanbase has ever done has gotten me more infuriated than this petition. It was just plain weird and embarrassing. That is all. Go Birds.

Eagles, Give Me Amari Cooper… NOW

Do I really have to explain myself? He is one of the premier talents in the league. You can argue all you want about analytics and how he only shows up for certain games, but it is obvious that when he steps on a field he gets extra attention from the defense and he is one of the fastest, most athletic players on the field.  Please let me explain why Amari Cooper is a great WR in a terrible system and why the Eagles would be incredibly stupid to not get him.

First of all, Derek Carr sucks. He is absolutely terrible. Yes. He had one good year and everyone loved him, but then again the same thing happened with Dak Prescott and he sucks too. So far this year, Carr has 7 TD’s and 8 Interceptions. My analytics people are telling me that this is, in fact, NOT GREAT. He is tied for the most interceptions in the league. Not only is he one of the worst starting Quarterbacks in the league right now, he looks kinda weird. I don’t know what it is but it may be that he has butthole eyes (Shout out Chaps) similar to Pete Davidson. Derek Carr Eyes1

He absolutely always looks like he is tired and I just don’t understand it. Can the Raiders not afford pre-workout because they pay their coach so much money? Even more so, why can’t he just borrow some of Gruden’s pregame Coke? Nonetheless, when you are looking at Amari Cooper and his stats, you absolutely must remember that Derek Carr sucks and always is tired.Derek Carr Tired.jpg

So, at this Wide Receiver position, you depend on a lot of things in order to get the stats you deserve. We covered the Quarterback, but you also depend on the coach. You need play calls that can help you get targets, along with getting touches in any way possible. Gruden is not doing a good job in getting the ball to his best WR and probably most talented player. It is not like they are trying to get him the ball and he is dropping it. Cooper, so far this year, ranks 48th in targets. He is behind newly fat (Welcome to the team), Kelvin Benjamin. What I am saying is, how is Cooper supposed to be the Elite WR he’s supposed to be, when his team does not even try to throw him the ball?

Next up, let’s just talk about the Eagles. Everyone wants a running back. Le’veon Bell, Lesean Mccoy, and pretty much any other running back that has Le before their first name (Philly loves French Running Backs) has been thrown in trade rumors with Philly. Why? Why do we need another running back. Think about it. We won the Superbowl because Corey Clement showed up and showed out. Good running backs are fun and all, but a lot of running backs are made by there offensive line. Look at the Steelers. Le’veon was worshipped as one of the best backs in the league, and now no-name James Conner has showed us that any fast strong guy can put up 100 yards and a TD per game in that offense. Smallwood is a good back in my eyes. I really think if he was given workhorse status, then he would be better than Jay Ajayi, and be known as one of the best RB’s in the league.

One more quick thing. Philly just won a Superbowl, right? I think I saw that in the News or something. So, what is the next step? Becoming a Dynasty. The way to go about this is to compare ourselves to other Dynasties and become them in our own version. So let’s take a look at the Patriots real quick. When the Browns put their uber talented, but underutilized even when on the field, WR on the block, the Patriots went right at him and got him. He is now one of their best offensive weapons. Why can’t the Eagles be like this. All that should matter when a franchise is as stable as ours is how talented a player should be. We should be able to trust and depend on our coaches to fix the rest of the problems and use the weapon to the best of his abilities. Just like the Patriots did. I can’t have the last sentence of a post be about the Patriots, so, Go Birds. GO BIRDS.

NBA, Sunday Bets.

Betting Picks

The first sunday without a real football game can have you feeling a little lifeless. The only real way to snap out of that funk is to place down a 7-way parlay on all of the remaining NBA games for the day. Since i feel as if I have missed my last 1000 bets on the Sixers, today is the day that I can actually win some money without jinxing my team. Let’s get to it. We will just be doing the spreads. If you want to know if you should take the Over or the Under… take the over and dont be a bitch.

Game 1: Milwaukee @ OKC, Bucks -1

Two of the best teams in the league, but this is an easy value bet. OKC ML at home will win you a couple extra dollars. I think they are the better team, and Giannis will not be enough to push Milwaukee past Paul George and Russ.

Game 2: Toronto @ Dallas, Toronto -4.5

This spread should not be close. The only reason it is close is because all of the teenagers in America are obsessed with Ariana Grande and Luka Doncic, and one of them happens to play for Dallas. Easy pick. Toronto -4.5. They are much better than Dallas and it will show.

PICK: TOR -4.5

Game 3: Orlando @ Houston, Houston -9

This is a tough game to pick. Orlando is a underrated team. They can give anyone in the league a run for their money, but end up short. 9 points is a lot for a team of Houston’s caliber. I just have to stick with my gut right now and take Orlando +9.

Game 4: Utah @ Minnesota, Utah -4

I hate Utah. The team, the state, the lake of salt. I also enjoy the Timberwolves. They have a couple familiar faces on their squad and a very likable coach. None of this matters though because I like money more than both of them. I will be taking Utah -4 because they are the more complete team and are hotter right now.

*******Game 5: Washington @ San Antonio, San Antonio-4*********

Two teams that I couldn’t care less about. Also, in my opinion, the easiest pick of the day. SA -4. Washington is a dumpster fire right now, and the spurs still have the best coach in the league. He will take care of the horrible Wizards at home.

Game 6: Miami @ New York, Miami -4.5

Both teams are not great, but Miami at least has a little something to play for. New York has players publically telling other players to pass the ball, another player being hunted by other countries while also getting benched by his coach. Take the consistent team over the young one here. Miami -4.5

PICK: MIA -4.5

Game 7: Phoenix @ LA Lakers, LA -7.5

Last game of the day and probably the hardest to choose. Lakers are not very good without Lebron, but Pheonix is one of the worst teams I’ve ever saw. 7.5 is a lot of points to give against banged up Lakers squad, but I think at home they will be able to take advantage of the easy matchup.

PICK: LA -7.5

OKC +1

TOR -4.5

ORL +9

SA -4

MIA -4.5

LA -7.5

Put $10 on that and the payout will be around $1000. Good luck.

Ben Simmons, A top 3 PG

Earlier I wrote about Ben Simmons and why Kendall Jenner will not affect his game at all. I now know that he deserves more. He deserves an article dedicated to his game, not because he is dating a supermodel, but because he is a Superstar himself.

Ben Simmons is a once in a generation athlete. I don’t think many people would argue this. He is a 6’10” freak with one of the fastest top speeds in the league and the the strength to match up with people bigger than him. This is just the physical parts of the game. The worst part for the rest of the NBA is he is one of the most skilled players in the game also. If this isn’t enough I guess you can also add the fact that he is only 22 Years old and only getting better. Anybody that hates on Ben’s game just does not realise, he plays the game to make his team better/win, he does not care about his haters/stats/lack of shots/etc.

People will only talk about Ben and his shooting. They don’t mention that even though he is not good at shooting, and his coach wants him to take at least 4 shots per game, he still is shooting 58.1% from the field. That is the highest shooting percentage of all guards in the NBA. You could even throw small forwards and count them as shooting guards and that statement would still be true. He takes shots that he knows he will make. He does this because he is aware that other people may have better probability shots around him and he would rather pass it away than take a low percentage shot so that some teenage in Connecticut will stop tweeting at him.

Ben right now is averaging 16.6 PPG. This is only .8 more points per game than he scored last year. At first glance you would expect and want more of a jump from a 2nd year player at the age of 22, but the more in-depth you look, the more you can see it is no issue at all. Ben Simmons right now is ranked 22nd out of all point guards in FG per game. He is even behind a couple players who don’t even start. If you adjust Ben’s numbers to make it as if he attempted as many FG as the point guard who ranks 3rd in FG/Game (Kemba Walker) then you can see that Ben Simmons is a Super Star, but he would rather win than have the flashy stats. This experiment spits out 22.48 PPG. Obviously this is not a true science, but many of the variables and problems with this exercise balance out with points that would inflate and deflate the number. For example, Ben’s FG% would likey dip down (Not as low as Kemba’s, but a dip nonetheless), but you can balance that out with the fact this would be his average not including free throws, just from FG’s made. This, to me, is why Ben is so valuable. If you look at the rankings of FG//Game for PG’s you see it is star heavy at the top. Steph Curry, Kemba, Dame, Russ, Kyrie, etc are all in the top 10. If you look to see the names that Simmons is shooting as much as you will see names like Mudiay, Rubio, Barea, Lowry (Missed 10+ games), etc. Simmons with the amount of shots he takes shouldn’t even averaging more than 15 PPG, but due to his dominance in efficiency he sits at almost 17/game.  Ben is also just catching fire right now, in his last 6 games he is averaging 20.66 Points per game and also has 2 triple-doubles, a 15 assist game, and a 22 rebound game. He is dominating and I expect his per-game numbers at the end of the season to be higher than they are right now.

MNF Lock of Week, Week 6

Betting Picks

Current MNF Record: 0-0

Total Current Record: Spread, 1-0. O/U, 1-0.

Bang bang. Last night was stressful, but we emerged victorious in the end. Well actually, the over was incredibly predictable and I don’t think I was nervous about that for even one moment. Moving on, tonight is another game that could really go either way. SF is obviously banged up, but they really haven’t been playing all that horribly. On the other hand, Green Bay completely depends on Aaron Rodgers and his injury prone body. So let’s see some picks.
